Indiana lawmakers have passed House Bill 1042, a landmark piece of legislation that safeguards cryptocurrency rights and curbs discriminatory taxation. The bill, which cleared the state House with a 59-33 vote, now awaits Governor Mike Braun's signature. Key provisions include banning local agencies from restricting crypto payments for legal goods and protecting individuals' right to self-custody digital assets.

The legislation marks a significant step in state-level crypto regulation, particularly as federal efforts like the CLARITY Act remain stalled. By prohibiting targeted taxes on crypto transactions and opening doors for public retirement plans to include digital assets, Indiana is positioning itself as a crypto-friendly jurisdiction. The MOVE could accelerate institutional adoption while setting a precedent for other states grappling with crypto policy frameworks.
